VIDEO: Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury) introduces Miss Butterworth

Who is Miss Butterworth, BRIDGERTON show fans wonder, and why are Bridgerton Series readers so excited?

Miss Butterworth and the Mad Baron is a book-within-the-book that first appeared in Hyacinth’s story, It’s in His Kiss. Think Gothic novel. Think over-the-top Gothic novel. Think waaaaaaaay over-the-top Gothic novel.

With pigeons.

JQ had so much fun with Miss Butterworth that she dropped the book-within-the-book into What Happens in London. And then Ten Things I Love About You. And then again in three of the Smythe-Smith Quartet novels. Readers started asking for Miss Butterworth and the Mad Baron to be a real book. JQ said no, because it was too ridiculous. There was no way she could sustain that prose for an entire novel. But JQ’s sister was an illustrator, and over-the-top absurdity was perfect as graphic novel

But we get ahead of ourself. Back to the beginning…

While we don’t hear Hyacinth actually reading Miss Butterworth and the Mad Baron to Lady Danbury until the second half of Chapter 3 of It’s in His Kiss, we hear tell of the tale in Chapter 1, where we find out that Hyacinth has been visiting Lady Danbury every Tuesday, and… Well, we’ll let BRIDGERTON actor Adjoa Andoh, Lady Danbury Herself, read the passage to you:

Miss Butterworth and the Mad Baron is now a full-length graphic novel. And oh, the pigeons!
