“Cecilia and the Satellite” by Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness
I couldn’t figure out what to name the heroine of The Girl With the Make-Believe Husband, and then I heard this song. I know that McMahon wrote it for his daughter Cecilia, but I think it’s a gorgeous love song for a partner, too.

“Cheap Thrills” by Sia
I love this song. It’s overplayed (heck, I overplay it) but I love it so much. It always makes me want to get up and dance, and I listened to it SO many times while I was writing this book.

“Stay” by Oingo Boingo
I’m a big Oingo Boingo fan, and I’ve always loved this song. When Danny Elfman sings, “Go—Don’t you go. Won’t you stay with me one more day?” it makes me think of Edward offering to release Cecilia from their marriage while at the same time silently begging her to stay.

“American Tune” by Paul Simon
This is one of my favorite songs ever. The lyrics make me shiver, and the melody is haunting. And in a way, The Girl With the Make-Believe Husband is my American Tune.
